Anyone else notice how Gmail now has a prettier loading screen with a progress bar? I know they’ve always had a loading notice, but this is getting ridiculous.
I wonder how much time was spent on creating that loading bar when it could have been put towards actually increasing the loading speed of Gmail. I measured the # of KBs transferred when loading Gmail and it’s roughly 250KB. Yahoo! Mail loads 300KB and it doesn’t have a loading screen!
The majority of the data is 1 minified and obfuscated JS file. I don’t know exactly what’s going on in there, but I’m guessing it could be shrunk a bit more.
