I hate music videos that are simply a band playing on stage. It’s a complete cop-out. A music video is supposed to be a creative, imaginative and visual representation of the song, not just some guys playing their instruments on stage. If I wanted to see that, I would go to a concert! I want to see a story, be shown something new or have my emotions pushed and pulled through the combination of sight and sound.
My favorite music video has to be “Star Guitar” by the Chemical Brothers. You know how sometimes in a car things will go by you to the beat of the music? That’s what this music video is. EVERYTHING you see relates directly to a sound in the song. It works really well because it’s a techno song with few lyrics, so it lends itself to something less story or idea driven. Check it out.
